The student funding team can provide information on all aspects of student finance including student loans, bursaries and tuition fees and give advice on applying for DSS benefits such as Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and Housing Benefit.
The service also manages a number of funds. The Support Fund is provided by the Department of Employment and Learning to make awards to UK home students whose access to or continuation in Higher Education might be inhibited by financial difficulty. To be eligible for an award from the Support Fund, undergraduates must have taken out the maximum Student Loan to which they are entitled. Postgraduates should be able to demonstrate that they have already organised funding for their course (including living costs) in advance of starting the course. Awards are generally made once a month and dates are posted on the website.
Any student is eligible to apply for University Hardship Funds. There is generally only a small amount of money in the Hardship Funds in any given year and therefore a personal interview is required and circumstances have to be exceptional for a payment to be made.
