If you are confused about student finance, don't worry. We aim to help you.
Part-time undergraduate students, who do not already have a degree and are studying at least 50% of an equivalent full-time course, may be eligible for a grant. This grant is in two parts, neither of which need to be repaid:
a grant to assist with the cost of fees for your course (this part is paid directly to the University) and
a grant to help meet other costs associated with your course (this is paid directly to you).
The grant is means-tested and your entitlement will depend on your income and that of your spouse/partner. The income threshold below which a single student with no dependent children can qualify for full support is £16,090. The income threshold is higher for students with spouses/partners and/or dependent children. Your Education and Library Board will work out how much financial support you can get.
There are three different rates of fee grant depending on how intensive your course is. For example, if you study at a rate equivalent to 75% of a full-time course, you could qualify for a higher fee grant than a student studying at a rate equivalent to 50% of a full-time course.
The table* below sets out the maximum fee grant and course grant you may get, depending on the intensity of your course.
Details of the eligibility requirements and the application process are available from the Student Finance NI website
