There is a NEW Maintenance Grant of up to £3,265 (for Northern Ireland students), to help meet the costs of going to university. This grant is means-tested, therefore, the amount received will depend on the household income of the student's family (or the student's own income, if he/she is living independently). If this income is below £17,910 students will receive the maximum grant, but where the household income exceeds £38,330, no maintenance grant is payable. Between these two thresholds, students receive a partial grant - on a sliding scale.
Only students domiciled within the United Kingdom are eligible for the new Maintenance Grant (although, within the UK, the amount of grant is slightly higher for NI domiciled students).
Students do not have to repay Government Grants (including the new Maintenance Grant).
