Personal Development Planning

Personal Development Planning (PDP) is a structured process to enable you to take control of and reflect upon your learning, performance and achievements.

This may sound like a lot of hard work but in fact, it is simply an organised way of getting the most out of your time at the University of Ulster.

You will be introduced to PDP at induction and directed to the University's Personal Development System (PDSystem) to support the online recording of your experiences. The PDSystem is secure, confidential and user friendly and enables you to:

  • Link to the student record system
  • Record and store evidence, thoughts and plans
  • Create career, personal and academic action plans
  • Communicate with programme teams
  • Check examination results
  • Build multiple CV's
  • Maintain a personal journal/diary
  • Create and share an e-portfolio

As you progress through the University, the PDSystem will enable you to collect records of all those experiences and achievements which have contributed to your development. It will provide a resource of experiences to draw on as you apply for work experience, placement, employment and study opportunities.

"PDP has enabled me to build up an extensive portfolio of evidence demonstrating the skills and experiences I have gained during my placement year. This will be very beneficial when looking for a job after graduation." - Stephen Costello (Year 3) BSc Hons Interactive Multimedia Design
