How to apply for a postgraduate programme

Applications for postgraduate programmes (taught and research) should be made using our online application system.

Entry requirements
To be considered for one of our postgraduate programmes you need to meet the University’s general entry requirements and the specific entry requirements stated for the programme you’re interested in.

If you are an international student we ask you to have an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL score of 550 (or equivalent). Some of our programmes ask for higher scores. A full list of programmes asking for non-standard English language scores, and details of equivalent English language tests which we accept, can be obtained from the International Office.

Postgraduate research programmes
If you are applying for a postgraduate research programme (MPhil/PhD, professional doctorate) you will be asked to submit a research proposal as part of your application. Our Research Office can provide further details on applying for postgraduate research programmes.

Application deadline
There is no general University application deadline for postgraduate programmes although we would recommend that you apply as soon as possible to allow time for your application to be processed. This is particularly important if you are considering applying for external funding (as you may be asked to include in your funding application proof of your acceptance to a university programme) or if you need to apply for a UK visa.

Where a particular programme has an application deadline, it is usually stated in the programme entry in the prospectus.
