At Ulster we are committed to creating opportunities for you in your studies and in your life.  Our Scholarships offer you the chance to ensure that financial worries are not an obstacle when it comes to your academic achievement and realising your full potential.

*these payments are subject to the Department for Employment and Learning confirming that funding is maintained at current levels.

The Widening Access Sports Scholarship Scheme (WASSS) was developed as part of the University of Ulster‘s commitment to widening access to Higher Education and seeks through the medium of sport, to help the University to target, recruit, support and retain a diverse range of students, in line with its Teaching and Learning Strategy.

Through three overarching themes i.e. ‘Be Active, Be Involved and Be Outstanding’, and associated programme areas, the WASSS provides Scholarship opportunities that seek to underpin the aims of:

  • Promoting outreach activities and encouraging aspirations of those from underrepresented groups to study at higher education level
  • Developing interventionist programmes to encourage participation by underrepresented groups
  • Developing student support structures at Ulster that promote retention and achievement and provide students with enhanced opportunities for employment
  • Supporting inclusivity and diversity to underpin all aspects of the student experience
  • Recognizing and rewarding participation in widening access activities.
