Tutoring in Schools is a programme that places undergraduate University of Ulster student tutors in a primary, secondary or special school.
Each student must complete a period of at least 32 hours over a 10- week period within the second semester of each academic year, commencing in the second week of February.
The programme is open to all students in all faculties It is traditionally popular with students wishing to complete a PGCE and undertake a career in teaching. However it is also an excellent means for students to improve their employability and self-confidence as well as their oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Participating schools nominate three prospective projects in at least two subject areas. Each project should include a detailed scheme of work and associated learning outcomes. Interested students are invited to apply for their preferred choices from the compiled list available from the Tutoring in Schools website.
The timeframe of each individual placement is very flexible as it is dependent on the structure of each project undertaken. For example the project could entail one full day every other week, half a day every week or perhaps a more concentrated timeframe will be required during intermittent periods.
