Vice-Chancellor's Introduction

Foreword

Professor Richard Barnett, Ulster's Vice-ChancellorI am delighted that you are considering studying at the University of Ulster.

At Ulster our key objective is to provide our students with learning experiences that will give them the confidence, knowledge and skills to enable them to take up challenging employment opportunities and to contribute to the further development of their chosen profession. We summarize this as professional education for professional life.

Ulster is in the top 20 of all UK universities in terms of the number of applications that we receive through UCAS. Before you begin your research into which university you will choose, I would ask you to bear in mind that universities differ in the emphasis that they place on their course provision. We ensure that our courses remain fit-for-purpose and each is subject to an extensive review. Wherever possible, we design our courses in partnership with relevant professional bodies so that our students graduate with a qualification that is recognised by their chosen profession.

The following pages contain information on the Ulster experience, including details of the extensive range of courses that we offer at Ulster. Many courses are offered by both full-time and part-time study. Part-time offers flexibility to enable you to up-skill whilst continuing to work.

At the moment (June 2011) a decision has not yet been made by the Northern Ireland Executive and Assembly regarding fees for September 2012 entry to University. As soon as this is confirmed, we will publish our fee levels, along with details of financial help available to students, on our web-site.

Education is an investment in your future – your employment prospects are greatly enhanced with a university qualification. I look forward to welcoming you as a student to the University of Ulster in 2012.

With best wishes,

RICHARD BARNETT
Vice-Chancellor
