| The module looks at issues of development and social change in Africa, both in the context of "global" development processes and through a consideration of the importance of "local" societies and cultures. The module considers what "development" and "social change" are and how they have been explained within sociological theory. Students assess this theory by looking at how far it can be applied to the African situation. Various topics are covered including colonialism, the informal economy, changing "traditional" religion, family and gender. | |
